In the late 1990s, Mrs Alice King spearheaded the concept of an Ink Museum with a group of fellow ink art enthusiasts. The Ink Society was was formally established in 2003 in Hong Kong as a non-profit organisation with charitable status under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance (Cap. 112). Mrs King invited renowned collectors and philanthropists Dr J.S.Lee and Dr Q.W.Lee to serve as the joint founding Chairmen.
The mission of The Ink Society is to foster a broader understanding and appreciation of modern and contemporary art that is based on or inspired by the ink tradition through an extensive range of programming, education and outreach activities.
