31 October
Presented by the Ink Society
墨境 Ink Worlds: Contemporary Chinese Painting from the Collection of Akiko Yamazaki and Jerry Yang was recently presented at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University from May to September 2018. The exhibition featured more than 40 works of art by nearly two dozen artists. Drawn from the personal collection of the collector and philanthropist couple Akiko Yamazaki and Jerry Yang, the exhibition focused on ink painting from the 1960s through the present.
In this conversation, Ellen Huang, curatorial fellow for Asian art at the Cantor and curator of Ink Worlds, gave a presentation on the curatorial process of this exhibition, from the artwork selection and catalogue writing to the exhibition design and working together with graduate students from the Stanford Department of Art & Art History. Jerry Yang shared his and his wife Akiko's journey in collecting, as well as the personal stories and experiences behind some of the pieces in the couple's collection.
