Beneath the Calm Surface: Yu Ming's Figure Paintings
Talk by Andrew Fung, Chinese art Researcher
19 April 2018
Co-presented by The Ink Society and Friends of the Hong Kong Museum of Art
Andrew Fung presented his research on the artistic practice of figure painter Yu Ming 俞明 (1884-1935). By closely examining Yu Ming's works from his early to late period, Andrew shed light on the artist's unique form, style and use of space. Andrew also spoke on Yu Ming's signature "flat" style, which was influenced by the flourishing print culture in China at the turn of the twentieth century.
At the end of the talk, guests were treated to a viewing of one of Yu Ming's original paintings, now in a private Hong Kong collection.
